The process of applying for a deck permit can be painstaking and confusing. Here at Cogan Contrators we can assess your project with a site visit, work with you to make your project come to life and take care of all the city permits your project may require.
Many homeowners are surprised when they are told they need to get a permit in order to build a deck. It is well worth the small investment of time and money to ensure your deck is built to code standards and is in compliance with the city's regulations.
Building a deck without a permit can get you into some serious trouble. Some people find out the hard way by having to pay a hefty fine, tearing down their brand new deck or having someone get hurt because of faulty construction. Building a deck without a permit can also come back to haunt you when it is time to sell your house. Contractors can lose their licenses if they build without the proper permits.
How do I know if I need a deck project permit?
- If your deck is more then 2' off the ground (Greatest vertical distance between deck surface and finished ground)
- If your deck is placed in a minimum set back
- If your deck increases lot coverage beyond maximum allowance
Or if your just not sure we can get you an answer!
If your existing deck does not meet city code and by law we can make the proper alterations to bring your deck back up to compliance. We take care of all Alberta 1 calls and we can expedite all deck project permits on your behalf.
